Mazdak Arabi

Arabi is the director of the Urban Water Innovation Network, a National Science Foundation-funded consortium of organizations searching for innovative solutions to the world’s water problems. His focus is on development of decision support systems for enhanced resiliency of water infrastructure systems in a changing world. Arabi has developed and demonstrated optimization-based approaches to facilitate development of watershed management plans that achieve water quality goals at significantly lower costs.

As the Borland Professor of Water Resources in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, he researches hydrologic and water quality monitoring, data assimilation and system analysis, GIS and remote sensing in watershed management, non-point source pollution, soil and water conservation, and environmental monitoring.

Arabi received his B.S. and M.S. in civil engineering from the University of Tehran in 1998 and 2000, respectively. He earned his Ph.D. in civil engineering and water resources from Purdue University in 2005.
