Dr. John Straayer is a Professor in the Department of Political Science and the Director of their Legislative Intern Program. His research focuses on legislative politics, state and local politics, and Colorado politics. Straayer received the Oliver P. Pennock Distinguished Service Award in 1986 and, more recently, the John N. Stern Liberal Arts Distinguished Professor Award for 2011-2012.

Straayer received his B.S. and M.A. from Western Michigan University in 1963 and 1964, respectively. He earned his Ph.D from the University of Arizona in 1967.
