Jeff Lyng, who served in the Colorado Governor’s Energy Office during former Gov. Bill Ritter’s administration, has joined Ritter’s Center for the New Energy Economy at Colorado State University as Senior Policy Advisor.

“Jeff will be a tremendous asset to the center as we continue to assist legislators and policymakers with energy policy discussions around the country in a non-partisan way,” Ritter said. “He joins our group at a critical time as many states are grappling with increasing pressure to address these issues.”

Lyng joins the Center for the New Energy Economy from Opower where he directed the company’s market development and regulatory affairs in the western United States. Before joining Opower, he served as Renewable Energy Policy Manager in the Governor’s Energy Office where he was an advisor on energy policy and managed several state energy programs. Lyng previously worked as an engineer for Xcel Energy where he consulted on demand-side management and solar programs.

Lyng earned his master’s degree in Building Systems Engineering from the University of Colorado where his thesis work focused on implementing solar energy in the production homebuilders market. While a graduate student, he managed the winning 2005 University of Colorado Solar Decathlon Team. He has served on the boards of Xcel Energy’s Innovative Clean Technologies Program, the Colorado Energy Services Coalition and the Colorado Renewable Energy Society. He is the past Board Chair of the American Solar Energy Society.

The Center for the New Energy Economy has helped build essential partnerships nationally and in Colorado around research-based clean energy solutions, workforce development and advancement of technologies that will fuel long-term, sustainable economic growth.
