Christian Puttlitz

Puttlitz, head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, focuses on using experimental and computation techniques to investigate orthopaedic conditions and their treatments.

Puttlitz is using the finite element method to study how loading changes in the spine following intervertebral disc replacement.

Puttlitz has received many awards including the George T. Abell Outstanding Early-Career Faculty Award for the College of Engineering and the Veterinary Orthopedic Society’s Mark S. Bloomberg Memorial Award for Outstanding Research, both in 2008. He was named a CSU Monfort Professor in 2011.

Puttlitz earned his B.S. in materials science engineering from Michigan State University in 1992. He earned his M.S. in bioengineering from Clemson University in 1993 and his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the University of Iowa in 1999.
