A.R. "Ravi" Ravishankara

University Distinguished Professor Ravishankara researches the chemistry of the Earth’s atmosphere as it relates to stratospheric ozone depletion, climate change and regional air quality.

Ravishankara is the former director of the Chemical Sciences Division at the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, where he worked for nearly 30 years.

He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, and is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Geophysical Union, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, and the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Ravishankara received his B.S. in chemistry and physics in 1968 and his M.S. in physical chemistry in 1970 from the University of Mysore in India. He earned his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Florida in 1975.
