Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What opportunities are CSU speakers available for?
A: Speakers can identify what areas they are available for comment, including media interviews, public education opportunities, serving on boards or committees, peer discussions, and speaking engagements. Each speaker’s preferences are outlined on their profile.
Q: I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for, where should I begin?
A: If you’re unsure of what speaker would best fit your needs, you may search topics, areas of expertise or keywords through the search function on the homepage, or search by college through the sidebar function.
Q: How do I contact one of the members of the Speakers Bureau?
A: Please click on the “request speaker” link on the speaker’s profile and you will be able to send an email to the party that manages the speaker’s schedule.
Q: How far in advance should I plan a speaker?
A: Each speaker is subject to availability, so we encourage advance planning. While you are not guaranteed a booking at any time, we recommend reaching out at least three months in advance of a large-scale speaking engagement and as soon as you become aware of a need.
Q: What is the cost to book a speaker?
A: There is no fee to request a speaker; however, some individuals may require an honorarium or reimbursement of travel expenses. Speakers who are asked to conduct workshops, seminars, or training may charge fees due to the nature of the work.
Q: If I don’t hear back from the person I reached out to, what should I do?
A: You should hear back on your speaking request within two business days, but if it has passed that amount of time, you can email email@example.com with a follow-up request.
Q: How can I find general information prior to reaching out?
A: Each of the speakers’ information pages links to work they have completed, as well as their department website, which can be a great resource for background information about their area of expertise and potential speaking topics.
Q: What if I need to cancel a speaker I have booked?
A: Please notify the speaker as soon as possible. Then, please inform the CSU External Relations team of the cancellation at (970) 491-6621 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: Can I speak to someone in person?
A: The CSU Speakers Bureau is set up to get you in contact with the speaker you are interested in talking to as quickly as possible, but should you need something immediately, please feel free to contact the CSU External Relations team at (970) 491-6621 or email email@example.com for immediate assistance.
